Regent Imperial New Chinese Modern Solid Wood Living Suite – Dark Ebony, Amber & Pearl White

Every carved detail begins with a deliberate cut. The chisel enters the timber slowly, removing only what is needed while preserving the strength and character of the wood around it. Fine chips fall away as the shape gradually emerges beneath the craftsman’s hand. Unlike moulded or machine-stamped decoration, hand carving develops naturally through hundreds of small decisions, each guided by experience and control. Curves become deeper, edges become sharper and decorative forms gain their individual character. It is a process that cannot be rushed, and one that gives every carved detail a subtle uniqueness that belongs to that particular piece.

Craftsmanship begins before the first cut is made. A pencil line drawn against a measuring square establishes exactly where one element will meet another, where a joint will sit and how the final proportions will come together. These small marks guide every stage that follows. Measurements are checked carefully because even a few millimetres can change the balance, alignment or strength of a finished piece. This methodical approach is part of what separates considered furniture making from mass production. Every component is planned, measured and prepared with purpose, ensuring that the craftsmanship begins with accuracy and continues through every stage of construction.

The final refinement of timber is often judged through touch rather than sight. As a hand moves across the freshly sanded surface, the craftsman feels for tiny imperfections, uneven areas or changes in texture that may not yet be visible. Fine sawdust catches the light as the surface becomes progressively smoother, preparing the wood to accept its final finish. Sanding is repeated gradually using finer abrasives until the grain feels balanced and refined without losing its natural character. It is a patient stage of the process, but an essential one. The quality of the finished surface begins with what the hand can feel.

The final check happens just before the furniture begins its journey to its new home. Each piece is carefully examined once again for its finish, structure, upholstery and overall presentation, ensuring nothing has been overlooked during handling or preparation. Corners, surfaces and delicate details are checked closely, while moving components are tested for smooth and correct operation. Protective packaging is then applied with the same care used during production, helping safeguard the furniture throughout transit. Only after these checks are complete is the piece cleared for dispatch, ensuring it leaves the workshop exactly as it was intended to arrive.
